While generally known as a rhythm specialist - that is to say, backing other musicians as part of the rhythm section - Pablo Cueco, virtuoso of the Persian drum known as the zarb, is also an accomplished band leader in his own right. Cueco's obvious passion for rhythm was the inspiration for the 2005 Minnesota sur Seine Drum Conference, which featured Cueco with African percussionist Patrice and Twin Cities drummer JT Bates. The 2005 Conference proved to be a joyful, celebratory exploration of many different percussive variations.

This year's Drum Conference brings Cueco, Patrice, and Bates together again, with the additional infusion of rhythmic insights from South American percussionist Mirtha Pozzi. This evening's performance should raise an explosive energy to new heights in a promising carnival of warm rhythms.
